2009 Christmas Tree.... and it's shaken... not stirred...

As usual... we went to get our tree this weekend.. I love this time... I get to enjoy the tree for the ENTIRE holiday season... so here is the trip to the tree farm.. our lovely tree... and all that happened while we were there.. (OK, not really....)

SO it was a long day in the truck for Hannah.. yes, I know it is blurry, but I was laughing and it was bumpy...

So here it is... the tree... it really didn't take us long to find it this year.. I think I am getting better at saying... "yup... this is it.." and not thinking something better is out there...

And, as I said.. our tree was SHAKEN... NOT STIRRED... it was funny... we have pine cones on the top of our tree, so when it was shaken to get stuff out.. our tree sent "stuff" flying...
Then they wrap it up for us before helping us put it on the car...

the wait.....

well.. the wait is now on... HP6 comes out on DVD December 8th... wait wait wait...
Star Trek.. however is out on November 17....

FAME... I'm gonna live forever....

We remember this.. right?? I remember LOVING this movie in the 80's.. I mean who didn't want to go to the Performing Arts High School after seeing this? Right? And the dancing and music? Who could forget this??
Well.. the remake opened this weekend. I remembered the dancing... thought Hannah would love this movie.. I mean, she is into everything 80's... sooo....




We went to the remake...
It was ok.. much MUCH more tame than the 80's cut. Still had the PAHS... still had the cast who were trying to make it..
Debbie Allen who was the dance teacher in the 80's movie was in this one..
It was OK, not great.. just OK.. not as much dancing... didn't "feel" the cast like the 80's...
Hannah did NOT come out of the movie stating that we HAD to get this movie...

Give me the 80's cut any day....

So the thing is Mom....

OK, so Hannah is 12.. OK, to be honest.. 12 1/2...we have an only child... I knew we were living on borrowed time after all... ... but today... while Hannah and I were driving in the car, she informed me that... the thing is.. there is no Santa... Yes, she believes that at one time there was a person who lived and was Santa.. but he's dead... (her words)
"So who is Santa then?" I asked... without missing a beat.. she replied.. "You are"... no warning.. just bam!!! No more of that special magic... done...

Vacay.. Day 2....

Nothing too special today.. Ok, does going to Sam's Club and Petsmart count?? I had an interview this afternoon, so that sort of cut into fun time.. the interview went well.. I think.. but as the Doctor said.. it's his ballgame.. he had aver 50 resumes sent to him. I thought it was good that I even got the interview.. It is only part time.. but that might work well.. we will have to wait and see at this point.

Vacation Day 1....

So today we went to the Science Museum on Minnesota to see the Titanic exhibit. All 3 of us LOVED it. WOW... I mean how they could find rings or buttons and bring them up from the bottom of the ocean... or unbroken plates and bottles.. We were given a boarding pass before we went into the exhibit. When we got to the end of the exhibit, you got to look at the list to find out if you "made" it or not.. Hannah made it.. She was some 23 year old lady who was enjoying a trip to celebrate her divorce, and was traveling 1st class.. (which by the way, a ticket would cost about $78,000 in today's money...)Pat did not make it.. he was a 22 year old male, traveling 2nd class.. Me? well, I was a 40 year old from Minnesota, coming back from visiting her parents with her brother, traveling 3rd class.. I did not make it either..
We also went to the Omni show after... All, very good.
Have no idea what we will be doing for the rest of the week.. hm...

stuff the ticks me off...

Well today was a banner day!! I found out that my dental office is cutting me 1 day a week.. for how long?? no one knows.. WHATEVER!!! HELLO.. you might have wanted to TELL me this.. not me finding out because I was looking ahead at my schedule!! Dentists!!!
Then other stuff that just pisses me off... I had to buy Hannah new pointe shoes.. not that this is bad.. but you know what? when you buy these things... those pretty ribbons that they tie them on with?? well.. you have to sew them on yourself... yup... you read that right... you pay any where from $50-80 a pair and THEN you have to sew on the ribbons!! WTF?? I mean.. come on.. you are told how to sew them on.. everyone sews them the same way.. so why do I get to sew them on??? and then... get this.. Hannah will take these beautiful shoes and break the shank in the sole.. yup.. crack city.. AND.. if I am lucky.. they will last her for a year... IF I am lucky....
And then there is Facebook.. and how Mafia Wars keeps freezing up on me.. and how slow it runs..
Then there is Kohls store.. don't even go there with me.. Just don't even want to go there... let's just say... I HATE the store and the employees... yup.. that is the best... (my blood pressure may be coming down at some point)
AND.. we are lucky enough to be on vacation next week.. we aren't doing anything special.. hanging around here.. which is fine with me.. I actually like that.. but still..

Summer... What am I going to do with Hannah???

Well.. I am sure that there are others out there who will have the same problem.. What do you do with a pre-teen kid..??.. well.. Hannah wants to stay at home. I am ok with that.. our neighbors are kind enough to let her swim in their pool.. she has a bike and can ride it to the city pool.. she has a ton of friends.. but the mom in me,... well a bit on the OMG side of things.. My little baby is growing up! There are enough stay at home moms around that she will be fine.. there are enough new friends around that she can hang with.. so I am ok.. (I am not sure who I am trying to convince here)...
Then there is dance.. YUP.. dance.. 9 hours a week of classes.. she is taking everything this summer including Hip Hop.. Had to go and get new pointe shoes today so that she will have them broke in by fall.. I am sure that she will have some sore toes this month... of course mom has to sew the ribbons on.. One would think with the cost of pointe shoes, ribbons would be sewn on already!!!
She is excited because this means that she gets to retire her 1st pair.. which means that she will have them hanging in her room...
Hey maybe she will actually clean the house for me.?.!

SO after a long (OK, not that long) break.. my favorite show is back on.. Army Wives! This season looks like it is going to be good.. I so love Sunday nights...
I don't HAVE to watch much TV, but this is the one show I do not miss...

Star Trek...

OK.. I admit it.. I have been bitten by the whole Star Trek thing! Pat and I went to the movie today.. and well... I LOVED IT... OMG!!! And Chris Pine as J T Kirk.. he was HOT! Then there was Zachary Quinto who played Spock.. and he looked like a young Leonard Nemoy! They had all the charaters... Sulu, Scotty, McCoy, and Uhura! If you just see this movie and nothing else you understand it.. if you know everything about Star Trek you get it.. it was a perfect movie!!

Dance recital.... Hannah style

So last night.. Hannah had her dance recital.. (thank god it is over!) She had 7 YES count them 7 dances this year! I was pretty impressed by her! I hadn't seen much of what she has been doing this year. I have seen (a really large number of times) her production number of New York, New York, and her tap number Dueling Divas. So I haven't seen her perform her ballet or pointe number... or jazz... or for that matter the whole Dad and Daughter thing... I was in shock!! I mean mouth drop open OMG shock when she did her pointe number!! I mean.. When did she learn how to dance like that?? And she was in an actual tu-tu!! so that was really cool too!
OK.. the Dad and Daughter number!! Can I tell you the crowd went wild?? The company dancer's Dad's were fabulous! OK, so Pat's group was the best.. they did a whole number with a military theme... One group did "Who let the dog's out", then there was "In the Navy"... and then Pat's group did "Danger Zone"... they had leather jackets dark glasses... very cool! I was yelling and clapping so hard.. my voice was almost gone!
Then after the dance recital.. the company girls went to Baker's Square... Which was a total blast! We had about 50 people there! That poor waitress!!
So since they don't allow pictures at the recital.. I don't have any pictures yet!! But they will be coming soon.. I promise!! I also have the DVD coming..
I am glad that we are done with dance for awhile.. at least the performances! I need a break!!

What I have been reading...

OK, so I have been doing some reading! A lot of reading.. ok, not a lot.. but a little bit of reading...


Dawn gave me this book for my birthday.. OMG.. I cried.. It was good.. very easy.. just notes that were left of the refrigerator between a mom and daughter.. Good read!!


Then of course.. well, I needed to finish the latest series.. this was good. ok, a little muddled at the end. But all and all.. a good read.. will try to get Hannah to read all of the books..


Another book that Dawn lent me.. OMG.. this was so good.. so sweet.. so summer read.. I know most have probably already read it.. but if you haven't... like I said.. a good summer read...



And then there is Genesis.. Ms Willems, Hannah's reading teacher asked me to read this and let her know what I thought.. if it was appropriate for 6th graders..
well.. this was great! a lot like The Giver... but not.. a total surprise at the end.. a bit more than what a lot of the 6th graders could handle, but if you have one of those precocious kids.. well.. they might like it...

I have a couple more books to read.. and to tell you the truth.. it's been nice to get back to all the reading...

Yup that is right.. I have a post.. I know I know.. it's been like forever.. What can I say...
Well I am posting today.. mainly because it is my birthday.. yup that is right.. the big 43 today! It doesn't bother me getting older. I know people might find that hard to believe, but really, I enjoy it. What is my other option?? OH, right.. death! So as I said, I don't mind it. Turning 40 wasn't a big deal, why should it be? And 43? Just another number.
I think that mainly, it doesn't bother me, because in my 43 years, I have found some wonderful friends! By best friend Dawn who I have known for years.... and my "newer" friends that I have here in MN... and my even newer friends that I found from blogging!(and if you are reading this.. that includes you...) So really I get to celebrate how fortunate I am.. how really lucky I have been.
Now.. that doesn't even include my super terrific hubby and daughter.. who in the last week, have had to celebrate Mother's Day... Which Hannah gave me the new Michael J Fox book, and Pat got me a shirt and jacket.. and we went to watch Hannah dance... and then Pat and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary on Wed, May 13.. Which Pat sent me flowers at work.. and got me Channel #5!! And finally on Saturday we got to go to Kincaid's for dinner!!
So, I wanted to say thanks to every one of my friends today.. being friends with you is my bestest gift to myself! And isn't that what life is really about?? Your friends and family.. and the love you get from them???

April 30th... deadline!

Well.. I made it.. I am still a Stampin' Up demo.. I made it out of pending.. Thanks to a wonderful customer of mine... so I am safe for another couple months.. if anyone cares..
I have been stamping some.. not much.. things are really busy.. I wonder if I stamped if that would relax me a little?? hmmm...
My friend Karen is in Mexico right now.. I am sure having a great time.. drinking those wonderful umbrella drinks.. and soaking up the sun!! She wasn't worried about the whole flu thing.. something about a doctor and a nurse and hand sanitizer.. hope they let her back in!!
Hannah has another dance competition starting tomorrow night.. and all say Saturday. I hope that they do well.. She got her tap costume.. REALLY cute! Orange and black! and I guess that she gets an actual tu-tu for pointe!!
That is about all that is going on right now..

Weekend fun...

Well.. I know that it has been a long time since I have posted.. really nothing to post of interest.. but this weekend.. my BFF Dawn came up for the annual Minnesota Star of the North dental meeting.. Now, for those of you who read my blog who are not dental people.. this is really a place where we can go to get our required continuing education.. suck up to vendor's who give out freebies.. (although not many this year) and catch up with others we probably really don't want to see anyway..
So all day Friday Dawn and I sat in meeting.. the 1st one was REALLY bad.. the 2nd one was great.. We were suppose to go on Saturday to a morning meeting.. but the room host was really rude, and let's just say we decided NOT to stay for that one..
Also had some fun time shopping at the Mall of America with Dawn and Hannah..
OH and then there was the required trips to Caribou Coffee..
The other thing I did was make some cards.. I did this thing a while back about people posting and then making cards for them.. Well.. Jeannie.. yours are going in the mail this week.. Karen.. I am working on yours now.. Dawn.. well.. you know..
So that is what has been going on.
Hannah did a competition last weekend.. my camera really isn't good for movement shots.. but they did great! and then she has another one Friday night and all day Saturday. I am amazed on how good she does.. I think she does really well, but I am mom.. but to hear from others that she is doing well.. you know...
And then there is Pat.. he had his first practice for the Father and Daughter dance.. I guess he is dancing to Danger Zone.. hm...
AND then there is the icky weather.. rained all day today.. and it's cold. I am really ready for warm weather.
My magnolia is blooming! YEA!! and my orchid is too! So that is good fun news..

I'm going crazy!!!

I love my daughter a lot!! And I LOVE my BFF Dawn a lot too!! HOWEVER... Thanks to my wonderful BFF and my darling daughter.. I am going crazy!!
As many of you know.. Hannah is obsessed with '80's movies.. She loves them..
Dawn.. being the Fairy Godmother that she is.. got her 2 movies for Easter.. She sent them a week or so ago..



Hannah is watching Ferris AGAIN!! This is the 3rd time she has watched this movie..
Now don't get me wrong.. Ferris is funny.. it's a great '80's movie by John Hughes! Come on.. how many of you would love to just blow a day off.. and do everything fun... AND get away with it?? I know you are all out there thinking of the movie and laughing.. WHICH I would be.. if I weren't watching it... over and over.. and over...
I mean how many times can you watch Matthew Broderick sing Twist and Shout?? OK, maybe you can watch it a few times..
And it is nice to see Hannah put people together.. Like...Jennifer Grey... (hey isn't that Baby???) and Charlie Sheen (the guy from 2 1/2 men....)



AND then there is Pretty in Pink... This is so '80's! Hannah has watched this at least 3 times as well.. (in 1 1/2 weeks...)
There is the scene at the prom.. you all know it.. Where Andrew McCarthy's Blane character tells Steff (James Spader) that he knows why Steff disapproves of Andie.. "you buy everything... don't you Steff.. and you couldn't buy her.. She thinks you're shit.. and deep down, you know she's right!" And where he tells her that he loves her.. And where Jon Cryer (Duckie) tells Andie that Blane isn't like the others.. and he "came here alone".. Hannah thinks that is the greatest!!..
If only it were that easy!!

Well.. all I can say.. DAWN... when you are here for the dental convention.. you thought that you were going to get to watch Buffy.. NOPE.. I am pretty sure that it will be all '80's.. all weekend... bring those stir up pants.. member's only jackets.. pop rocks.. jelly shoes... Rubik's cube... Reebok high tops... and be prepared!!

Oh, and to be fair.. I should note that the "Easter Bunny" got her a few movies too... The Breakfast Club, Flashdance... and Center Stage... (OK, this is a movie from 2000, but it's about Ballet...)And I think that he was looking for 16 Candles too!!....

Good Friday?

OK, I know that Friday was Good Friday.. I know that.. But I guess that doesn't mean that if you are to do a community performance, you go and dance....
Which brings me to Hannah and Good Friday...




Her dance studio scheduled a community performance at 1/2 time at the Harlem Globetrotters game at the Target Center.
Now, I don't know about any of you.. but I have never been to see the Harlem Globetrotters before.. I don't enjoy basketball all that much... but still.. I went.. I sat and watched this "game"... just so I could see my little munchkin perform..
Hannah did a great job.. and she really liked the game..
She has a competition next weekend..
AND no I didn't take pictures, I didn't think that we would have good enough seats.. but it turns out.. I should have taken the camera.. oh well.. next time...
On a side note.. since we were at Target Center, we got a really good look at the new Twins Stadium.. which looks like it will be awesome when it is done! I am sure that it will be sold out for most games! (I am sure that they are hoping all games)

Weekend update...

Nothing too special this weekend. Patrick had knee surgery on Friday to repair a torn meniscus... and he was doing okay yesterday... but today is a whole new story. His knee is pretty swollen and black and blue.. and he is feeling some pain now.
Yesterday I went to my first (and probably only) Stampin' Up regionals. It was fun. We did 6 projects. One using the Big Shot.. (Which I still might get.. as long as I am still getting that discount!) It was fun.. I met up with a gal I met thru the Nutcracker, and we sat together. That and 4 others from Iowa.. Which was funny, because Crystal and I are both orginally from Iowa too!
I don't have pictures yet of the stuff we did. But I will try to get some up soon.
Hannah is on Spring Break for the week, so it will be interesting to see what I am going to do with her!

OH where oh where have I been??

OK, by the list on Karen's blog.. I haven't posted for a while.. YUP, that is right.. nothing too special going on.. I got a "flush" email from the U of M.. just so you are up to speed, I thought I had "nailed" the interview... and the best part??.. well.. they misspelled words too!! Made me feel really great. Now, they informed me that they were only interviewing 5 people for the job.. I guess maybe that is suppose to make me feel better! NOT!!


OK, so where have I been?? Nothing too special.. we went to the MN Zoo I think last weekend.. I really love the seahorses.. I can drive Hannah nuts by just watching them forever.. but you have to admit.. they are cute!!!
Hannah did inform me that they are putting in Sea Dragons soon too.. that will be fun to watch too...

So Hannah is really into all things '80's.. She wanted Footloose for her birthday.. and we got it for her.. Remember how I said I have watched Grease over and over??? Well now we are onto Footloose..

The Messenger

OK, so I read this book.. I guess I should have read Gathering Blue after The Giver, but I didn't know that they were related..
So anyway.. I read this mainly because I did enjoy The Giver.. EVEN though it was slightly disturbing. I am still thinking of what the message was in the book.
So... anyway.. at the point where I am with out a book again.
I have pretty much made my mind up that I am going to quit SU.. or stop being a demo.. or what ever you do.. I tried, I guess I just never really got enough of a following to make it worth while. I will be using my friend Deb as my consulantant. I have until the end of the month.. OK, actually, I think I will have until the end of April.. I will be put in "pending"... so I will just make sure that I have my paper up to date, and enough of it.. and if there are any sets that I have to have.. I am trying to decide if I want the Big Shot or not. That is one I have to think about.
Tomorrow is my wonderful hubby Pat's birthday!! He will be 41!! I am sure that he will be happy that I told "the world" that he will be 41.. but well.. So I will make him his favorite dinner of country pie, and an apple pie.. since he likes that more than cake..

books I have been reading....

OK, so I have been reading some more of the Percy Jackson series that started with The Lightening Thief.. Which I liked... so this was number 2.... I didn't like it as much as The Lightening Thief.. but I liked it enough to go on to the next book...


...and #3.... Which I liked much better than #2... this one was more entertaining..
I haven't read #4 yet.. and #5 comes out this spring...


Then Hannah's reading teacher had asked her to read The Giver... and suggested that I might want to read that one first as well...
BOY... this one was a book that made me think. There are some really strange things that happen in this book. I wonder how someone comes up with this stuff.. It was a quick read.. and I liked it.. but when I got done with the book.. I just went..."hm"... and then "hm" again...

Where I have been

Well Saturday was Hannah's 12th birthday.. Hard to believe that my baby is 12! I mean really... I remember having her!! They say you forget... BUT you don't...
Anyway.. She had 2 of her friends spend the night on Friday.. They did a "spa" thing.. you know.. paint your nails.. run around and scream at the top of your lungs.. the normal.. Anyway.. I was emailing Michelle about cakes, because her daughter Taylor's b'day is March 1st.. and she sent me a link for a cake.. well.. I can't say that mine turned out as well.. but Hannah was happy with it.. And it tasted yummy.. and it's gone.. so that is a good sign...



And for some reason, no matter what.. when ever she has friends spend the night.. she wants pancakes for breakfast.. and since Saturday was her birthday.. I HAD to put a candle in hers!!

Tomorrow (Tuesday) I have an interview at the University of Minnesota. They are opening a BRAND SPANKING NEW clinic. Wish me all the luck.. because to tell you the truth, I am scared to death!!
My work situation isn't good. The dentist I work for is going broke! He is a terrible money manager.. and well.. he has champagne taste on a WATER budget! (not even beer budget..) So both the assistant and I are looking for new jobs.. because we really don't know how long we will have one where we are at. I guess we are just like millions of others out there.
So anyway... I didn't have any interview clothes.. I know hard to believe... I mean can't think why I would have ANY thing other than scrubs.. so we went to JCPenny's and Hannah found this wonderful Jones Wear Suit that was regularly $200 on sale for GET THIS... $29.97!!! AND it fit.. so I am hemming the pants tonight.. because as most of you know.. I am a bit on the petite side.. but with heals and 1 hem up.. I am set to go...

And the whole Stampin' Up thing?? well.. not sure.. but I am thinking of letting myself go into pending and just dropping.. I can order from my friends.. with the economy and all of that.. I just don't know if it is worth it any more...

Newest book

I have been volunteering in a reading classroom on Friday mornings, and this was the book that they are reading right now. I thought that I should read it as well, so on Friday, Ms. Willems lent me the book. I have to admit.. I loved it! There are 4 books the series.. so I have a few more to read..
It is also nice, because Hannah is reading the book as well. So I will have something to talk to her about too.

Look what I got....!!!

OK.. so after a yucky day at work.. I got home and in the mail... I got THIS... YUP.. Jeannie from Dragonfly Journeys sent me this REALLY cute card.. I mean look at this thing!! She is so wonderful!! I wish I had all her talent!!

I just finished this book by one of my FAVORITE authors.. Nelson DeMille. I LOVED this book.. It is a sequel to The Gold Coast!! LOVED it..

Hannah's invites and my Valentine's flowers

As promised.. here it is.. This is what I made for Hannah's invites. She LOVES them.. fun and flirty just like her! Anyway.. I only had to make 2 so it wasn't too bad.

I did do some other cards, but since they are being sent to people who read this blog, I didn't take pictures. Just so you know... I did do a bunch of stamping!




And Pat isn't suppose to get me anything for Valentine's day. I personally think that it is a "holiday" that the card, flower, candy companies made up to make money... so I sort of just say.. tell me Happy Valentine's day and be done with it..
But being my wonderful hubby that he is.. he brought me these beautiful pinkish/reddish roses on Friday.. NOT for Valentine's day.. or so he says...

It's Sunday.. and I did clean up my stamping room.. and you know what that means?? YUP I need to stamp and mess it up again! Who knows? maybe I will start posting loads of cards again.. OK, don't hold your breath...

Happy Valentine's Day

Well, as I stated before, I have been doing a LITTLE bit of stamping. NOT much, a little here and there..

This is the Ghirardelli Box that Beate did for Splitcoast.. Not too bad.. it was easy to do.. Which in my case is ALWAYS a plus!





While I was at my upline meeting, one of the lady's there.. and I can't remember which one, showed this using Lifesavers.. She had done it with a punch instead of stamping on the top piece.. but.. well.. I just stamped.. much quicker. Very easy to do.. very quick!!! and I gave a few of these out to people at work... THEY LOVED them!! And what a way to use up scraps! Superdee Duperdee Easy!!

So this is the Valentine's Day version... I am sure that I can just swap out some colors and stamps.. and BAM... every occasion...

I am working on invites for Hannah's birthday party.. WHEN... I get them done.. I will post those as well.. Since I only have to make 2... well.. not so tough.. Yup, that is right.. she is only inviting her 2 bestest friends to stay over.. Nothing big, nothing special.. I am thinking of putting a tent up downstairs for a camp out theme.. do hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill.. and I have a little s'more maker thingy.. not sure.. will have to see.. since I don't have a tent.. and I would have to figure out a way to put it up downstairs..

I have been making cards.. really!!!

So I did do some stamping.. this is a birthday card for one of my co-workers. Her Birthday is on Monday. I hope that she likes this card. It was pretty easy to make!

And for Valentine's day.. I made this little 4x4 card. Just a quickie really...






Now this one I found on Inkin With Dink's blog.
It looked quick and fun, so I thought I would try it.. This was my 1st attempt.. I liked it.. think I will try some more soon!!
